receives scholarship to study reentry
The
Academy is pleased to announce that Ethan Alexander Jewett,
MA, Senior Health Policy Analyst in the AAP Division of Workforce and Medical Education Policy, is a recipient of the 2007 Joan F. Giambalvo
Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded by the American Medical Association Women
Physicians Congress (AMA WPC). Mr. Jewett hopes to identify the barriers currently

WPC Web page to find out more about the scholarship.
Women
leaders in pediatrics Women
have made great strides in recent years as leaders in medicine, particularly in
pediatrics. Below are some data on women pediatricians in leadership positions,
both in the AAP and other pediatric organizations. Even though a lot of progress
has already been made, more efforts are needed to promote women to positions of
leadership at all levels of medicine. Read the
report of the Federation of Pediatric Organizations (FOPO) Task Force on Women
in Pediatrics to learn about ways to enhance the leadership of women pediatricians.

The
AAP Committee on Pediatric Workforce (COPW) addresses issues and activities that
pertain to the influence of gender on the pediatric workforce. The COPW both examines
existing data and generates new data on gender-specific workforce issues on topics
ranging from career choices of third-year pediatric residents to practice patterns
of women physicians. The Committee ensures that the prominent and dynamic role
of women in pediatrics is reflected in the Academy's physician workforce policies.
The Committee on Pediatric
Workforce is managed through the AAP Division
of Workforce and Medical Education Policy. For resources
related to GME issues, please access the Division's Web page.
