Welcome to the AAP Council on Sports medicine and Fitness new improved website featuring helpful links and information for the medical student, resident, or well-established pediatrician. The new website houses information on the sports medicine fellowship application and programs, lists sports medicine electives available across the country, and a case of the month. For the established general pediatrician it offers online copies of the COSMF newsletter, the Pre-participation Monograph form, notification of upcoming sports medicine meetings in your area, and a link to new tools or resources. Call for Nominations: COSMF Executive Committee
Deadline - December 15, 2008
There will be one open position on the Council of Sports Medicine and Fitness (COSMF) Executive Committee. Online elections will be held in Spring 2009 and the 3-year term of the new position will commence on July 1, 2009.
The Nominations Committee will be looking for candidates that are sports medicine certified and a good writer. The ideal candidate
will either run or be involved with a sports medicine fellowship program. Expertise in areas involving pediatric bone health,
cardiology, mixed martial arts, or cheerleading helpful, but not required. Candidates need not possess all qualifications to apply for
position.
Executive Committee Members are required to:
- Attend all Executive Committee meetings (the COSMF has 2 face-to-face meetings per year. Each meeting is usually 1-2 days.)
- Review all relevant material before meetings. Make contributions and voice objective opinions on issues.
- Complete individual assignments in accordance with a timeline/deadline established by the chairperson and/or staff.
- Regularly review and provide feedback on policy statements, clinical reports, and other materials developed by the AAP.
- Volunteer to take the lead in activities appropriate to expertise.
- Represent the COSMF in meetings of other sections, committees, councils, or organizations as directed by the Academy.
- Focus attention on the COSMF's role and how it supports and fits with the interests of the Academy and its strategic plan.
- Be accessible and responsive to the chairperson, other Executive Committee members, and staff via phone and e-mail.
If you are interested in submitting your name for consideration, please send a brief (no more that 250 words) paragraph outlining
your qualifications and explaining why you are interested in becoming an Executive Committee member of the COSMF. Also, the
Nominations Committee requests that you please submit a name, e-mail and phone number of a colleague who can be contacted for
supportive information, if deemed necessary by the Nominations Committee.
