In 1989, the American Academy of Pediatrics, as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational and philanthropic organization, established its Friends of Children Fund, the AAP Annual Fund. Contributions to the Friends of Children Fund enable the AAP to support high priority activities, respond to emerging child health issues and continually generate new knowledge about the best way to care for children. Through the generosity of members and friends including corporations and foundations, the AAP remains a strong voice for children.
Contributions to the Friends of Children Fund may be restricted to a specific AAP program or unrestricted and be used for important programs and projects through Friends of Children Fund grants. Since it is impossible for the Academy to fund all of the worthy and important programs it would like to support, it depends on the generosity of donors, through annual unrestricted contributions to the Friends of Children Fund, to support many special initiatives.

Since 1991, when the Board of Directors distributed the first Friends of Children Fund grant, nearly $5.6 million have supported important programs and activities.

This chart shows the areas that have received support through the Friends of Children Fund over the past 18 years.

Following is a list of projects and programs approved by the AAP Board of Directors that were funded by unrestricted donations to the Friends of Children Fund:

We are grateful to all of our members, friends, corporations and foundations that provide annual support through the Friends of Children Fund.
